(a.k.a. the Tall Hat Band)
Founded - 1873
The Culcheth Military Band was founded in 1873 in a small town
close to Newton Heath, Manchester and soon became known locally
as the Tall Hat
Band because they wore tophats when marching.
I think this was probably due to the the band members dressing
in their "Sunday-best" clothes which at that time would have
included a topper.
